2026 Allied Social Sciences Association Meeting

The 2026 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 3-5, 2026. The annual meeting is an opportunity to build your professional knowledge, collaborate with colleagues, share in research and discussion, and establish connections with peers and mentors.

Registration and exhibits will take place at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. General meeting information is available on the AEA website at https://www.aeaweb.org/conference. The preliminary program is posted at https://www.aeaweb.org/conference/2026/preliminary. Individuals unable to attend in-person will be able to view selected AEA live-streamed sessions for free.

Meeting registration and housing open on September 9. When registering, you will be required to acknowledge and accept the AEA Code of Professional Conduct and AEA Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation.

AEA Annual Meeting Program

The AEA annual meeting program for 2026 is set to offer an exciting and engaging experience. Highlights include the AEA Distinguished Lecture by Leah Boustan of Yale University and the AEA/AFA Joint Luncheon featuring Tarun Ramadorai of Imperial College London. The popular Lightning Round Sessions and the Recent Developments Series will return for 2026.

Graduate students and junior faculty are encouraged to attend the Mentoring and Networking Luncheon. This luncheon is designed to connect graduate students and junior faculty economists with leading experts in their fields. Poster sessions will again include dedicated times for author discussions, and registrants can take advantage of free professional headshots in the exhibit hall.

Job Market Interviews

The AEA recommends conducting initial job market interviews virtually, rather than at the ASSA Annual Meeting. We encourage you, however, to make full use of the JOE Network for managing candidate profiles, job listings, and letters, as well as utilizing the application module, which includes a scheduling tool for interviews. The AEA will continue to offer Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The AEA Committee on the Job Market provides regular updates on the job market. EconTrack Enhancements

The Association has added several new features to EconTrack, the AEA's job market information board. EconTrack was launched in 2018 to provide candidates with the status of open positions, such as the dates on which invitations are sent and fly-outs or offers are issued. All registered users, including AEA members, are now welcome to participate in keeping hiring milestones up to date. Additionally, a milestone that was entered or verified by an institutional administrator includes a certification symbol. To ensure privacy, EconTrack does not include comments or any information about individual candidates under consideration. Entries are added to the EconTrack board by employers who opt in through the JOE Network or register the entry directly on EconTrack. 2025-26 Minority Job Market Candidates

The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) maintains a web page listing of 2025-26 minority job market candidates as a resource for employers. If you identify as American Indian, Alaskan Native, Black (not of Hispanic origin), Hispanic (including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin), Pacific Islander, and other groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of economics and would like to be added to this list, please email Jose M. Small Group Breakfast Meeting for URM Junior Scholars

Each year, at the ASSA Meeting, there is an opportunity for junior URM scholars to interact with leading senior economists over breakfast. The goal is to allow junior URM scholars access to AEA journal editors, executive board members, thought leaders in specific areas of economics, or other economists for the purpose of addressing issues of access to journals, conferences, and networks that are often out of reach for junior URM scholars. Participants are limited to 20. The 2026 breakfast meeting will take place on Sunday, January 4 and will feature AEA President Lawrence Katz. CPC Graduate Student Focus Group Report

The Committee on Professional Climate (CPC) regularly gathers views on the professional climate from graduate students and explores strategies for improvement. AEA Mentoring Program

In the mid-1990s, CSMGEP created a Mentoring Program for students accepted or enrolled in a Ph.D. program in economics. Since then, the program has expanded to include new doctorates as well. Students are matched with mentors who see the students through the critical junctures of their graduate programs (including the transition from course work to research) or the early stages of their post-graduate careers. The Mentoring Program also hosts an annual Summer Mentoring Pipeline Conference to which all participants and their mentors are invited. The conference, which is held each year at the AEA Summer Training Program, facilitates contacts among students in different schools and at different stages in the pipeline. Weekly Virtual Seminar on the Economics of LGBTQ+ Populations

The Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) invites you to its weekly virtual seminar on the economics of LGBTQ+ populations. The Fall 2025 series will highlight practice job market talks from LGBTQ+ identified candidates as well as LGBTQ+ economics topics. Anyone is welcome to attend. AEA Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE)

The fifteenth annual CTREE conference will be held May 27-29, 2026, at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The conference is hosted by the AEA Committee on Economic Education. Plenary talks will be given by Peter Felten of Elon University and Joe Price of Brigham Young University. Submissions will be accepted via the AEA online submission system which is now open. Submissions will be accepted through December 1, 2025. Submissions may be of individual papers, complete sessions of three or four papers, posters, workshops, or panels. Submissions of complete sessions are especially encouraged. The submission portal and general conference information are available at CTREE 2026.
